This past year, Drexel announced several coaching changes, as both Softball coach Katie Jansson, and Golf coach Ben Feld stepped down from their positions.
Drexel has named Brooke Kalman as the new Head Coach of the Drexel softball program.
Kalman came to Drexel from Gettysburg College, where she captured the program’s first NCAA Regional Championship. She concluded her third season at Gettysburg in 2025, where she won the Centennial Conference Regular Season as well as the Regional Championship. Furthermore, Kalman and her staff were recognized by the Centennial as the Cashing Staff of the Year. She guided the Bullets to their highest national ranking in both school and conference history (at the No. 13 spot), accumulated the most wins in a single season in program history, and coached two All-Americans, the first for the college’s program. During her time at Gettysburg, Kalman gained a 93-35-1 record and the second highest winning percentage in program history.
Kalman’s journey at Gettysburg began in undergrad. She was a four-year letterwinner and team captain, and earned her degree in psychology with a minor in writing. Kalman later earned her master’s degree in counseling from Villanova.
Prior to her coaching career at Gettysburg, Kalman served as the Head Coach and Student-Athlete Leadership Program Director at MIT from 2018-2022. During her time there, she led MIT to top-25 NFCA rankings and NCAA Regional Finals, while simultaneously developing All-American student-athletes at one of the nation’s top academic softball programs. Kalman also acted as head coach at Franklin & Marshall College and Ripon College, and started her career as an assistant at Ursinus.
This coaching change was made after the announcement that Katie Jansson, will not be returning as head coach, after coaching at Drexel since the 2022 season. The softball team has not had any luck in the past few years, with their last winning season coming in 2022. This past season, they ended with an overall record of 5-41 after a year long struggle.
Additionally, Scott Yurgalevicz has been named the Head Coach of the Drexel golf program.
Yurgalevicz is a PGA Golf Instructor at Philadelphia Cricket Club and was head coach at the Division I level for nearly a decade at La Salle. He is a Class A PGA professional and has been at Philadelphia Cricket Club since 2019. His expertise is in swing mechanics with certification in numerous areas. He has coached players from all different levels by designing customized lesson plans tailored to individual learning.
Yurgalevicz is a Torrington, Connecticut native, and previously served as the head coach for both the men and women’s golf teams at La Salle University from 2014-2024. His achievements include lowering the team scoring average by 27 strokes and setting his team’s record for the lowest scoring average in school history. Additionally, nine of his student-athletes won individual tournament championships and he led the Explorers to three team titles. By that time, there were only three titles the school had won. During his time as coach, his teams broke more than 30 school records. He recruited current Drexel golfer Kevin Lydon, who set a school record by shooting a 10-under-par 61, in 2022. He also oversaw all aspects of the program, including recruiting, operations, travel, budget, fundraising and compliance.
Prior to La Salle, Yurgalevicz taught at LuLu Country Club, Chester Valley Golf Club and Dupont Country Club. He was also a Golf TEC Center Manager and Coach for two years.
Drexel’s golf team in the past nine seasons has thrived under the leadership of former head coach Ben Feld. Under his leadership, the team has won several tournaments and championships. However, as the beloved coach decided to step down to spend more time with his family, there was a search for a new coach.
As these two coaches begin their new seasons at Drexel, there is high anticipation on how their performances will contribute to the successes of both teams.
