You may have just returned to campus for the fall term, but the fall sports season has been underway for some time. Now that you have had some time to settle into classes, it is the perfect time to get into the fall sports season. Here is everything you need to know to get up to speed on the season.

Women’s Soccer:

On the heels of a disappointing 2024 season, the Dragons are putting up a perplexing 2025 campaign. With a 2-3-8 record, the Dragons have found a way to generally stay out of the loss column, but have struggled to find ways to win.

The main culprit for this conundrum has been a complete lack of an offensive presence. No Dragon has more than one goal on the season. Elise Duffy leads the program with four points. Drexel is tied for dead last in the CAA with just eight goals scored. This is 18 goals less than the CAA-leading Stony Brook Seawolves.

What has kept the Dragons afloat is their stout defense. The Dragons have conceded the second fewest goals in the CAA, with just 10 goals allowed. Sophomore goalkeeper Sammy Widnick is second in the conference in goals against average.

The Dragons are currently tied for fifth in the conference with five points, although it is difficult to see them being much of a competitor with the current state of their offense.

Men’s Soccer:

After an impressive debut season as head coach, Dave Castellanos dealt with a difficult offseason that saw many top contributors depart in the transfer portal. Castellanos was able to retool this offseason by bringing in a handful of talents from the transfer portal in midfielders Tiago Lima-Bittencourt (Stonehill College) and Morgan Worsfold-Gregg (Houston Christian University), who currently are two of the top-three point scorers for the team.

Freshman midfielder Jack Shannon has also starred for the Dragons, collecting CAA Rookie of the Week honors on Sept. 22.

The Dragons currently sit tied for fourth with six points in the Coastal Athletic Association, where they have a 2-2 record in conference play. Overall, Drexel has a 4-3-3 record.

The Dragons are second in the conference in goals scored, but they have struggled to keep the ball out of the net, as they have conceded the third most goals. This appears to be a systemic issue, as starting goalkeeper Raphael Bartell has been solid in the net, as he has the fourth-best save percentage in the CAA.

Field Hockey:

After a stellar season in which field hockey was nationally ranked and made it all the way to the CAA Championship, the Dragons have taken a slight step back. After starting 3-4, Drexel has rattled off two consecutive wins to return to an above .500 record.

Standouts Pili Lemoine, Valentine Van Hellemont and Marti Sanabria have been the offensive firepower behind Drexel’s offense. The Dragons have built their success on a stingy defense that has given up the fewest goals in the CAA, with just 14 goals allowed.

Goalkeeper Alana Poole has been the backstop for Drexel’s two-game winning streak, winning CAA Defensive Player of the Week for her strong performances.

The Dragons have only played one conference game so far, a 2-1 victory at Hofstra, leaving them tied for first in the conference with Towson. The Dragons have four more CAA games left, in which it will be important to stay in good form.
