No costume? No problem. Quick costume DIYs

Looking for a last minute Halloween costume? Look no further! Here are six costumes you can put together right now!

Alvin and the Chipmunks

  • A quickster classic. All you will need is red, blue, and green T-shirts or hoodies, denim bottoms, and two friends who also forgot their costumes this year. Though this quick little fix may not be the most spectacular, it is a tried-and-true way to make it look like you kinda-sorta planned something. If you have a group of six or would like to do a feminine version of the costume, add the Chipettes into the mix if you have any sparkly tops or a-line skirts on hand.

Wingless Fairies

  • Bonus points if you have wings on hand. However, no wings, no worries! In fact, these mythical creatures are often depicted without wings in certain cultures’ folklore! Tap into your inner whimsical, do not be afraid to mess around with various textures and colors, the goal is to look magical, not your typical Tuesday morning attire. You can stick to a color scheme or go crazy with rainbow colors. Try glitter, colored fishnets, tattered fabrics, faux flowers, or vines: anything that makes you feel your most majestic. You can even make some last-minute DIY fairy ears fairly cheaply.

Wednesday Addams

  • Perhaps a solo costume cliche, but before Netflix took her popularity to new heights, the Addams Family was somewhat niche! Regardless, you can whip this costume up fairly easily with just a couple of basics: any long-sleeve black dress with a collared shirt underneath, and you are set. It does not have to be exactly classic Wednesday or Netflix-style Wednesday either; as long as you have that intense black/white contrast and a creepy look in your eyes, you are golden. Do not be afraid to put your own spin on your Wednesday either.

Charlie Brown

  • The end of Halloween officially marks the start of the holiday season, at least as far as I am concerned. That said, it is not officially too early to feel that holiday spirit. And what better way to spread holiday cheer than dressing up as everyone’s favorite, conveniently simply dressed, holiday character Charlie Brown! This is great as a solo costume, but could easily be turned into a dynamic or group ordeal if you want to throw in anyone else from the Peanuts crew. Channel your inner baldness and throw on a yellow polo, add a black chevron stripe with electric tape or duct tape, and call it a night.

Shaggy and Scooby Doo

  • Another easy one if you still want to dress up but do not necessarily want to be covered in sparkly goodness. Another option could be either a solo, duo, or group costume, depending on how you choose to approach the task. Any green shirt and some khakis or reddish bottoms will do just fine for Shaggy, and a broufit (brown outfit) with dots made of construction paper or black tape would make a quick and easy Scooby. Do not be afraid to gender-bend this costume (or any costume for that matter), as you could substitute a skirt for either of these characters and look super cool. Go for a feminine moment by adding fishnets or tights in the matching (or complementing) color if you have them. You could even throw in some glitter if your heart so desires (no, glitter is not a necessity, but it does make everything better).

Mermaids

  • Buckle up because it is time to get your whimsy on once again with this super easy, magical costume that is perfect for going on your own or with company. This costume is ideal for anyone with an excess of makeup or body-safe glitter. It is also super flexible, so do not sweat if you happen to be missing any of these items! Any mythical creature is mythical for a reason; there are no rules. With that in mind, if you want to look like the mermaid-iest mermaid possible, try and follow this silhouette formula: loose on the bottom, tight on top, OR tight for the full body. Play around with tube dresses, flowy skirts and tight tops, sweetheart necklines, netting, or even bras. Time permitting, use some E6000 glue to attach shells, pearls, or netting to any of the garments above if you happen to have them on hand. You can use fishnets and makeup to create a scale-like effect.

It is not too late to be a baddie this Halloween. Show up, show out, be safe, and DIY!
