The corner tea.r: It is ok to change

I am not sure if it is just me, but every time the seasons change, I completely forget how to dress.

Dear reader, please indulge my worries and concerns. As your very own fashion column curator, do not dare for a second to say that I am off my game; I fear it is just that time of year where everything I think I know becomes everything I do not. I see the piles of red and yellow adorning the ground and feel an airy crisp in my nostrils during my walk to work, and that is it. The patterns, colors, textures, aesthetics, and trends I have been looking forward to, all the fabrics, and my sparkly, sparkly jewels – I am tearing up just thinking about it – curl around my head and slowly drip out my eyes. Then they are gone. All of a sudden, I am wearing 15 layers and turning my hats inside out, trying for the life of me to create a new look.

Theatrics aside, and regardless of season, it happens every year. Now this is a difficult thing to admit … to a group of people I do not know … in a newspaper I just joined, but my hope is that I find others like myself, maybe you, who share these quarterly lapses in judgment. If you, too, share this “changing of the season,” then thank you. We are in this together.

I suppose it is my job to be helpful in these situations. However, it is important to remember that all of us, even those supposedly in positions of advancement, struggle. Color schemes repeat, patterns clash, and the shoes you bought three months ago are no longer your style. Say it with me … this is normal. But on top of everything, I do understand that it is nice to have somewhere to look. Someone who is in the same boat but who has an oar (see what I did there) In this regard, I have one singular piece of advice.

It is ok to change.

The last few weeks have consisted of me, my Pinterest board, and my floor (currently shrouded in the mist of my wardrobe). I have found myself balancing somewhere between “I must/want to stick to my very distinct and very much me style” and “dang” (school paper) “that is so cool why have I not been doing that.”

What I will tell you, dear reader, is that it is ok to do both. Many things in my wardrobe have come out time and time again. At first, I was down, accusing myself of being an outfit repeater or having a boring look. But I think those outfits, the ones I have held dear to me since freshman year, are simply a good, reliable outfit. Whoever told you that an outfit repeater was a bad thing….

Very off-topic opinion in my opinion piece article — outfits are made to be worn more than once … if it is a good outfit. No, that is not subjective.

Moving back to our main point, and all this rambling to say that if you — like me — are struggling to get back into your fall fits (hehe), then take a breath and pause. Bring out those garments you love so much, open up that Pinterest board, and do not be afraid to make some changes.

Now, I promise that the next time you read me, I will be very informative and have very useful and accurate information to tell you in my very useful and accurate fashion column. But for now, I just felt like some people might need a bit of a pep talk, including myself. Bye!
