Drexel’s campus had some special visitors this past weekend, as videos surfaced of Luka Doncic and the Los Angeles Lakers hosting their pre-game shootaround at the Daskalakis Athletic Center (DAC). The appearance drew plenty of attention from students and alumni, who were taken aback to see some of the NBA’s biggest stars casually getting shots up in the same gym they use every day.
Doncic and the Lakers took on the Philadelphia Sixers at Xfinity Mobile Arena on Sunday, traveling into town for a marquee matchup featuring some of the league’s most talented players. The Lakers left victorious, narrowly escaping with a 112-108 win.
NBA teams often use college facilities when traveling from city-to-city, taking advantage of the privacy, availability, and high-quality equipment that university athletic centers provide. Still, seeing a team as high-profile as the Lakers practicing at the DAC, just feet from where students train daily, made for a rare and memorable moment on campus.
