Fleetwood Mac fans may be in for an exciting ride.
A recent social media exchange between Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham – two legendary members of the iconic ’70s band – has gone viral, reigniting interest in their famously complex history both on and off the stage. The exchange started with Nicks, posting a stylized graphic of the lyrics “And if you go forward…”. Buckingham? Using a very similar style of graphic, he posted “I’ll take you there.” The two put together form a line from the Fleetwood Mac song called “Frozen Love”.
This sent fans into a pleasant wave of shock, with followers commenting things such as “What in the ‘Silver Springs’ is going on around here!!!!” and “This is my Roman Empire”. These posts lead to many speculations. Was this simply a tender moment between two former bandmates bonding? Or was this a cryptic hint at a potential musical release? Regardless of its intent, fans attempted to crack the code of what this truly meant. Articles were released analyzing the lore between Buckingham and Nicks, and fans theorized across a multitude of social platforms.
And just about a week later, after decades of being out of print and nearly impossible to find online unless you owned the vinyl or searched through underground uploads, “Buckingham Nicks” is finally getting a proper re-release. The album was originally released in 1973, and was the first (and only) album released by the duo. Though the original album received minimal recognition, the guitarist (who was Lindsey Buckingham) caught the attention of Mick Fleetwood. Fleetwood invited Buckingham to be the guitarist of the band, who would end up accepting under one circumstance: that Stevie Nicks be brought on board as well.
Soon, the two would become the face of the band, often writing songs about one another. These songs were some of the most successful songs produced by the band, many of these songs coming off of the 1977 album “Rumours”. The dynamic between Nicks and Buckingham became the core of Fleetwood Mac, contributing to their most iconic works. The romance between the two and the tension they had shared, off and on stage, captivates fans to this day.
Now, with this re-release on the horizon, fans are left to wonder the possibilities of what is next. Another original album? Potentially a new chapter in their musical careers? A tour? One thing is for sure: Fleetwood Mac fans may be in for a lot more than they expect.
