The owner of the D.P. Dough franchise on Drexel’s campus, Bruce Wray, has informed The Triangle that the establishment will reopen for business on Jan. 15.

Wray shared that the restaurant’s indefinite closure was a temporary “restructuring effort” that left the possibility — with no guarantee — of reopening. He acknowledged the headwinds that the restaurant industry is facing, and had decided to pause operations to renegotiate their lease and terms with food vendors. The adjacent El Taco shares the same landlord.

Employees were informed that the store would be closed indefinitely, but those negotiating efforts, which had been expected to possibly take weeks, were largely resolved in just days. There were no health code issues.

The number of employees will not change, and Wray said students should not expect any significant changes when they return.

The owners expressed their gratitude for the outpouring of support from the Drexel community for their restaurant. They plan to host a grand reopening with brand-new specials, the details of which will be announced on their social media.

Increased competition from ghost kitchens and small-form-factor restaurants has been trying for the restaurant business. Food delivery services such as Grubhub and Uber Eats also take a cut of any orders they facilitate.
