Calling all Dragons! Homecoming 2026 is almost here! Just because Drexel does not have a football team does not mean that they get to miss out on the fun of Homecoming games.
The best thing about not having a football team is that we have not one, but two, homecoming games over the span of two days. Taking place in the Daskalakis Athletic Center, Drexel Women’s and Men’s basketball teams are going to play in the homecoming celebrations. In the women’s game, the Dragons face the Stony Brook Seawolves on Friday, Jan. 23, at 6 pm. In the men’s game, the Dragons take on the Northeastern Huskies on Saturday, Jan. 24, at 2 pm.
Drexel is hosting several pregame celebrations and activities for students. To kick off the homecoming celebrations, a bonfire will take place on Lancaster Walk from 5-7 pm, per tradition. There will be food, hot chocolate, and giveaways. After the bonfire, students will be able to come into the DAC and cheer on the women’s team at 6 pm. Concluding the women’s game, the men’s game has a roster for events as well. For pregame celebrations, Drexel is hosting Fanfest in the Rec Center lobby prior to the game from 12–2 pm. You can grab some fan gear, meet Mario, and Drexel’s spirit team. Following the fanfest, the men’s basketball game begins at 2 pm. During halftime, Drexel will reveal the Royal Dragon as part of the Homecoming Court. The Royal Dragon will be awarded a $500 scholarship, with the first and second place runners-up each receiving a $250 scholarship. For current students, admission is free! However, act fast because the DAC only holds so many. If you were to attend one of the games, it is suggested to arrive at the DAC an hour to 45 minutes before the game, but the earlier the better.
As for the two games, it is important to know some information about what is going to occur. Now, if you’re from Northeastern or Stony Brook, do not come. Just kidding! But come at your own discretion, as I can not guarantee your emotional safety. But no matter what, it is always important to follow DAC policies regarding behavior and ethics during games. Screaming is encouraged; however, keep it inside the DAC. Do not throw food, balls, or any other object on the court. The DAC prohibits items including alcohol, outside food/drink, weapons, noisemakers, professional cameras (unless prior exceptions), and large bags. Additionally, the DAC prohibits disruptive behavior, profanity with reason (because who does not curse a bit at a basketball game? Just do not go overboard). Make sure to focus on sportsmanship and Drexel’s code of conduct.
Now, question: what do I wear? Answer: any dark blue and gold in your closet. Think jerseys, sweaters, scarves, hats, or even just a dark blue top with gold accessories. If it matches the colors, it works. You can paint your hair blue, add blue and gold clips or ribbons, or put it up in pigtails or space buns. Do not be afraid to go bold; the more spirited, the better. Another good thing about the DAC is that it is indoors, so you do not have to layer anything, never freezing in this January weather. Add glitter to your face, hair, or shoulders for a little sparkle. Wear big, chunky necklaces, bracelets, and statement earrings or face paint in blue and gold. The goal: show up looking blue and gold.
Homecoming 2026 is approaching quickly. Between the bonfire, fanfest, giveaways, and royal reveals on the court, Homecoming will be filled with many entertaining events.. So grab your deepest dark blue, your brightest gold, and your loudest (respectful) voice, stay hydrated, and head to the DAC this January.
